• To Pop or Stop?

Should we take vitamins/supplements? As climbers we are constantly seeing articles based on this topic. Some do, some don’t. I’m sure there are crushers out there that swear by ‘em and others who think they’re a waste of money. Personally, I seem to get injured quite a bit so I figure they can’t hurt!  My current line-up is:

    • Multivitamin (umm…?)
    • Fish Oil (heart/inflammation/omega 3′s)
    • B Complex (immune/stress)
    • Glucosamine Chondroitin (joints/connective tissue)
    • Vitamin C (when I’m sick)

Now whether not these bad boys help or not is a different question.  I assume the most tried and true supplement is the fish oil.  Omega 3′s are supposed to be very good for the body.  On a side-note I’ve noticed that if I don’t eat enough the vitamins (especially the Glucosamine)  will tear my stomach up.  How do y’all feel about this subject?  Any takers?

I’ve got mixed feelings on the matter. Some things I’ve read say they are a waste of money, others say they are a good idea. As usual, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. As long as you don’t over do it, i’m sure they won’t hurt you, and they may even help, so worst case scenario is you throw $ away on something that may or may not be working. But the placebo effect is an important consideration too. Do you feel better after you take them?

Also, I’ve heard that liquid gluco-chondrotin acts much faster…

Uh-oh! Liquid gluco! To be honest I can’t tell a difference when I’ve taken them or not. Valid point about the placebo effect.

I think they help.  I take a multi vitamin and fish oil.  I do think the fish oil helps with the joints and my hands seem to hurt less.  I’m not sold on the gluco/chondroitin/msm stuff.  I took it for a little while and most say you need to take it for weeks to even “feel” an effect.  It was expensive too.
